Farmworker Housing Standards in the Non-Coastal Zone (Housing Element)
As outlined in the County’s Housing Element Program 22.214.171.124(8), Planning Division staff will evaluate development standards applicable to discretionary farmworker complexes and adopt new or amend existing development standards, if warranted, to facilitate more construction of these units. In addition, it is anticipated that amendments to the Non-Coastal Zoning Ordinance will be required, for consistency with State Law to implement the Employee Housing Act (California Health and Safety Code, Section 17000-17062.5). Any updates to the existing development standards will be conducted in consultation with farmworker housing organizations.
It is expected that the ordinance amendments will be brought to the Board of Supervisors by the early 2021, and post-adoption tasks (such as preparation of public information materials and updates to permitting documents) will be completed by mid-2021.
